Sadie is 6 weeks and not a fan of day sleeps. Any tips???

At 6 weeks old some things that helped Harry sleep during the day was:

  • Using a white noise app on our iPhones - we still use it. We also use a “sleep sheep” that has a whales song setting. We put the AC or the fan on during his naps and at night for the white noise.
  • Harry didn’t like his crib or even the co-sleeper at first (too much room) - but he loved the Rock and Play sleeper!I think the high sides made him feel secure and we could rock it gently to get him to sleep.
  • He fell asleep in his bouncy chair alot. It has a vibration and that helps lull him. We have a bigger one now and the vibration still does the trick.
  • Driving around in the car for about 20 minutes usually got him to sleep.
  • We would let him nap on us during the day. He only recently began to nap in his crib - and we still don’t mind a good snuggle now and again!
  • We tried not to be too quiet and as a result, Harry sleeps well with the television on or people talking.

We really just took his cues. If he seemed very tired we tried to help him to sleep, but we really didn’t aim to set naptimes. Hope some of this might help! Good luck!

My mother has told me four times that today is free donut day. I’m not sure if this is a Dunkin Donuts promotion or something she decided when she woke up. All I know is she didn’t bring me one this morning on her way over. Boo.

Day 3: Eight Ways to Win My Heart

My husband has won my heart. Here’s how he did it and keeps it:

  1. He called me on the phone and asked me for a date. I’m going to say that again. He called me and asked me for a date. He did not text me or facespace me. And he asked me for a date. He said “I’d like to take you out on a date. How’s Wednesday night?”, not “Wannahangoutsumtime?”. He has confidence.
  2. He wore a jacket and sometimes a tie on our dates. He dressed well. He put some thought into his appearance and still does. But he also listens to my opinion so when I tell him the striped boat shirt might make him look like a gay sailor, he listens.
  3. He is funny. Very funny. He’s a great impressionist. And his sense of humor is a bit twisted.
  4. He doesn’t give me any reason not to trust him. He is straightforward. He says what he means and means what he says, but doesn’t say it mean.
  5. Early on in our relationship I told him I needed more affection. Ever since we make sure a day does not go by without a long hug and a kiss. It’s a stop-everthing-have-we-hugged-yet-today? kinda thing.
  6. In the hardest of times (deaths, miscarriages, getting laid off) he held me. During Harrison’s birth he was my champion - my voice when all I could do was moan in pain. He is our protector and rock.
  7. He never burns the bottom of cookies and he understands the medicinal effects of ice cream.
  8. Those blue eyes make me swoooon!

You are doing great. And you have some challenges that I don’t:

  • I couldn’t breastfeed so Harry went to the bottle
  • Harry is 18lbs - a big boy - and I think that helps lots
  • Because he’s big, our doctor told us it’s time for him to CIO a little bit. We keep it to 10 minutes, but he’s always fell asleep before then.

I promise you’ll get here. In the meantime, crawl under your desk when you can for a nap or tell Chad you’re running an errand and sleep in your car ;)

Well, unless you’re my baby. Harry’s a good sleeper…….

OMFG I totally just jinxed myself, didn’t I?

Happy Friday! May you NOT sleep like a baby this weekend.

Sleep.

Well, well, well. Seems Mr.Harrison is the proud owner of a regular bedtime. He’s out of the sleep sacks and in footie pajamas. His sleep cues are rubbing his eyes and a fast but short onset of a personality disorder (I love you. I’m screaming. I’m laughing. I can’t focus my eyes….). He gets a hug & kiss and is put in his crib at 7:30pm with the AC on low - the white noise helps. Our plan is to let him cry it out for 10 mins before we check in on him, but he’s usually asleep 4-6 minutes after we put him down.

We all share a bedroom so Mommy goes to bed at 10pm and Daddy brings Harry downstairs where he snoozes until his 11:30pm bottle. Then the guys come up to bed. He might fuss in his sleep a couple of times during the night, but he can settle himself down and he sleeps until 6 or 7 in the morning.

It’s been nice having a few baby-free hours in the evening to chill with my husband and catch up on Game of Thrones. Harry seems happier too. He gets a total of 2 hrs or so of naps during the day - and my mom tries to put him in his crib for at least one of those naps (they take a crazy long walk everyday and he usually sleeps for some of that, too). Set mealtimes are also helpful.

Bottom line: routines are awesome!
